Promenade Estates has reported a busy first quarter as its brownfield acquisition strategy yields fresh results.
The company has completed on the acquisition of an 11.86 acre site from supermarket group J. Sainsbury in Thornton on the Wyre coast and secured planning consent for 1,100 homes at the former Cowley Hill works site in St Helens. The 104 acre site represents the largest housing allocation in the emerging St Helens local plan.
The news follows other recent acquisitions of brownfield sites in Widnes and Ellesmere Port for which schemes are now being progressed. The deals represent millions of pounds of fresh investment by the business.
“It makes absolute sense for the industry to utilise as much brownfield land as possible and we remain actively seeking similar sites,” said Promenade chairman Peter Hynd.
“The schemes currently in progress represent more than 1,800 new homes and relieve pressure on our green belts. We’re delighted to put some of our resources to work in such a productive way.”
